COVID-19 impacted everyone in our community – especially those who suddenly found themselves without an income or access to government support.
Kathy and her husband are both international students with big dreams for their future. When they both lost their jobs during the pandemic, they quickly struggled to pay their household expenses. The situation looked bleak, but they never lost hope – even when they had to move into cramped conditions with their two sons and daughter-in-law.
The Village Pantry gave this family food, but it also gave them so much more – a community that believed in them. They started volunteering with us twice a week to help others in need, and continued to improve their English skills. Now they have been able to secure paid work and once again live independently. We are grateful to Kathy for sharing her story – and for helping us to continue growing as a village where everyone is welcome.
