Primary purpose of position:

Responsible for helping older Australians feel more comfortable with technology through personalised mentoring sessions, either one-on-one or in groups. This role aims to make the digital world less intimidating by providing hands-on help with online tools, fixing tech issues, and teaching about online safety. Ultimately, the goal is to make sure everyone in the community feels confident and included in the digital age.

KEY FUNCTIONAL RESPONSIBILITIES
  • Provide one-on-one or group mentoring sessions to older Australians to enhance their digital skills and confidence.
  • Assist learners in navigating online platforms, managing files and documents, and utilising basic software tools.
  • Diagnose and resolve common technical issues related to computers, smartphones, and other digital devices.
  • Educate learners on cybersecurity principles and safe internet usage habits.
  • Tailor explanations and teaching approaches to suit the understanding and comfort level of older learners.
  • Demonstrate empathy and patience in supporting learners through the challenges of adapting to digital technology.
  • Adapt teaching strategies and materials to accommodate diverse learning styles and preferences.
  • Structure mentoring sessions to set achievable goals, manage time effectively, and track progress systematically.
  • Provide constructive feedback on learner performance and evaluate progress objectively.
  • Actively engage with local communities to promote digital literacy initiatives and advocate for digital inclusion.
QUALIFICATIONS AND EXPERIENCE REQUIRED
  • Professional experience in a training, educational, customer support or other position requiring regular interaction with people.
  • Proficiency in basic digital skills.
  • Ability to diagnose and resolve common technical issues.
  • Knowledge of cybersecurity principles.
  • Flexibility in teaching approaches.
  • Previous mentoring or teaching roles.
  • Experience working with older adults is an advantage.
