At Community Support Services (CSS), we often say “It takes a village.” But for us, the village isn’t just a saying – it’s a lived reality. CSS is a second home for thousands of families, elders, women, men, and young people who walk through our doors seeking connection, belonging, and hope.
Our three pillars – Nourishing, Nurturing, and Empowering – are the threads that weave our village together. They come from our cultures, our stories, our mothers’ teachings, our shared meals, and our belief that every person deserves a place to belong.
Nourishing - Food, Culture & No One Left Behind
Nourishing is where our cultural roots stem from. In our communities, food is never just food – it is love, memory, survival, and generosity. It is how we care for one another.
Every day, CSS rescues food from local supermarkets and transforms it into daily hampers for anyone who needs them. No forms. No judgement. No one leaves empty‑handed.
But we go further. We honour the food traditions passed down through generations:
- making clarified butter the way our grandmothers taught us
- rolling labneh with patience and pride
- preserving vegetables and herbs using cultural techniques that have sustained families for centuries,
- sharing recipes from Egypt, Lebanon, Syria, Afghanistan, Sudan, and beyond.
This is our circular‑economy model – no waste, no hunger, and deep respect for the land and the food it gives us.
Our Nourishing pillar includes:
Saturday Cooking
A weekly community cook‑up where volunteers gather like family and prepare over 120 meals hot cooked meals in partnership with Brothers in Need.
Daily Prep Sessions
(Mon – Fri)
Chopping, marinating, preserving, and preparing meals together for Saturday and for our hampers.
Daily Food Hampers
Open to all, every single day (Mon-Fri).

Village Pantry
Our downstairs pantry & op shop offering a supermarket‑style experience with village warmth, dignity, and affordable prices.
In our cultures, the kitchen is the heart of the home. At CSS, it is the heart of the village.
